FABRICS<\/p>\n

Hand-weaving,<\/strong> often performed using old wooden looms, still plays an important role in the island’s craftwork tradition. Wool is employed to make rugs -decorated with geometrical shapes often reproducing animal outlines. Skilled female hands show great creativity.<\/p>\n

CERAMIC<\/p>\n

Ceramic-making<\/strong> is another typical Sardinian craft. Throughout the region, local craftsmen still use old-style wheels and bare hands to transform the clay into an incredible array of household items.<\/p>\n

JEWELLERY<\/p>\n

The jewellery trade boasts many experienced craftsmen specialising in the manufacturing of silver-filigree pieces and the very well-known “Sardinian rings”<\/strong>. Other skilled artists work gold to produce filigree items or combine it with coral to create earrings, neck-laces, bracelets and rings, often reproducing antique jewels of exceptional beauty.<\/p>\n

WOOD<\/p>\n

Wood working and carving is another thriving trade. Typical Sardinian wood products<\/strong> include finely-decorated chests which feature animal outlines looking almost like mythological figures.
\nOnce again, Sardinian craftsmen show their endless imagination and produce an array of small wooden items of particularly fine workmanship, featuring birds, flowers.<\/p>\n

LEATHER<\/p>\n

In many areas of Sardinia, local craftsmen work leather to make various leather items and a particular bag which resembles the haversack<\/strong> carried by shepherds.<\/p>\n

KNIFE MAKING<\/p>\n

Shops throughout the region sell the famous Sardinian knives<\/strong>. Manufactured in Pattada, Santu Lussurgiu and in other small centres, the classic Sardinian jack-knife is entirely handmade. Some models are particularly valuable as they boast hand-carved horn handles.<\/p>\n
